Thanks Doug. Wasn't aware of those specifics about DuByne. In my experience, factual errors, omissions, even disinformation, AWA the more commonly discussed problems of bias are a major challenge almost everywhere we look. Helps to have friends who watch my back rather than trying to do it all myself. Pvt. msgs are also handy for that. .

How often do you encounter a dead end when you're trying to verify "information"?

FWIW, my initial steps begin with manner and style of the presentation:

1. When reading a book, or article. Or, listening to a video provider is dial down the volume. Per se, many resort to exaggeration and hype, trying too hard to get attention. Ice Age Farmer AWA DuByne are only two of a long list of examples across many different topics. Once I do that? It's easier to spot inaccurate details and questionable assertions.

2. Look for what's missing from the presentation. Sometimes what's missing is as important as what's being emphasized and can undermine the credibility of the author and his arguments.

That said? Easier to be a critic than present a viable thesis on any important topic. Putting the pieces together to do that with reasonable accuracy and balance is very difficult.
