Vivo Software Partners with Media 100 to Create and Co-Market Web Streaming Video Solution

Vivo Software - NAB Booth #I5045 Sands Expo Center Media 100 - NAB Booth #5458 Las Vegas Convention Center

NAB '97, LAS VEGAS, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Vivo Software Inc. today announced a broad-based business partnership with Media 100 Inc (Marlboro, Mass.), under which the two companies will cooperatively develop and market a Web streaming media solution that incorporates their respective products and technologies. Vivo is the creator of VivoActive Producer, a Web video post-production tool that enables Web developers to easily produce and integrate streaming video into their Web sites. Media 100 Inc. is the leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art digital media authoring systems, used by more than 10,000 video professionals at organizations worldwide.

Under the new partnership, Media 100 will co-market VivoActive Producer, promoting it to Media 100 customers through a variety of traditional and on- line channels, including a 10-city seminar series targeted at video professionals and Web developers.

VivoActive Producer, as an Adobe Premiere plug-in, will be tightly integrated with Media 100qx, which uses Adobe Premiere as the software component of a Windows-based digital video editing solution. This integration allows video production professionals to launch VivoActive directly from Media 100qx, saving several steps in the process of editing digital video and then compressing and formatting video files to be embedded into HTML pages and streamed on-demand by Web site visitors. Vivo and Media 100 are also exploring tighter integration between VivoActive Producer and the Media 100 flagship product.

"One key to making streaming video a natural and ubiquitous data type on the Web is to simplify the process of producing it," Dr. Staffan Ericsson, chairman of Vivo Software, said. "By integrating VivoActive with Media 100, Vivo will take an important step in that direction. Our goal is to smooth the hand-off from the people responsible for producing and editing video to Webmasters tasked with creating and enhancing Web sites."

"The combination of VivoActive and Media 100 is an ideal solution for video professionals looking to repurpose audio and video content onto the Web," said Anthony Dolph, vice president of strategic alliances at Media 100 Inc. "Media 100 customers will be pleased to see how Vivo's tools technology fits into the Media 100 environment with which they are familiar. Together, Vivo and Media 100 are bridging the gap between video production and the Web."

Already more than 1,800 Web sites have added VivoActivated streaming audio and video to their HTML pages, allowing visitors to view video clips on demand. More than 3 million VivoActive Players have been downloaded by PC and Power Mac users seeking to view VivoActivated Web video content and another 6 million are in distribution through bundling arrangements with channel partners. Prominent VivoActivated Web sites include CNN, C/Net, MSNBC, CourtTV, HBO, the BBC, the Vatican, Hewlett-Packard, Intel and NCR.
