AAPL vs. Clones.

>If Apple is so good in high-end machines, why are they constantly being beat to the punch by the clones??<

That's not exactly true. Power Computing has grabbed a lot of headlines for fast CPUs and offer good value across their product line, but their support infrastructure is no where near AAPL's. (Also, their machines are dog-ass Wintel ugly.) :)

Motorola offers a five year warranty but their customer support is untested. Also, on their "Tanzania" 200mhz 604E unit, there is no built in ethernet, the internal hard drive is IDE (not the faster SCSI), the VRAM is not expandable and the processor is not daughtercard upgradeable.

You can do all this stuff through the PCI slots but that adds $. AAPL's high end CPUs include this. Also with AAPL, you don't have (albeit minor) compatibility issues.

Bottom line: Though the clone makers are doing good/great work, AAPL still offers very good (high margin) desktops. Also, their new (higher margin) laptops are a joy.
