In a place like Peru, "capitalism" means 19th century style capitalism unbalanced by any government regulation, unbalanced by effective trade unions, unbalanced by a credible legal system that can rein in the worst excesses through the use of tort law.

If a mining company wants to come in and destroy the rivers in order to mine gold, so that the villages downstream have only poisoned water, there's nothing to stop it except Marxism.

I believe in capitalism but I don't believe you have the right to poison other people's drinking water.

In Peru, if I felt that way, my only credible ally would be the Marxists.

Glad I am not in Peru. Maybe I should go there -- Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto believes that what will save Peru is a credible legal system. I guess I could study Peruvian law and sue the bastards. ;^)
