No, I don't think he denied it under oath, but he was smack in the middle of a presidential campaign. I think candidates for office do have an obligation to tell the truth. I know that's a novel concept. If I had my way, the penalties for a candidate lying while running for office would be as serious as for perjury. If he didn't want to answer he should have said "no comment" or "that's irrelevant" or something similar and have the guts to stick to his answer, but he should not have lied. If morality matters to the public when they are deciding who to vote for, they have the right to ask the question. The candidate should in my opinion have the right to not answer the question, but s/he should absolutely not have the right to lie, whether it's about their sex life or about their opponents or about their resume or anything else.

I'm generally against clogging the halls of congress with more volumes of law books, but that's one of the very few new laws I would support.
