Named Among Best Managed Manufacturers
United Dominion Industries has been named one of the world's 100 best-managed companies by IndustryWeek Magazine.
The magazine's list is the focal point of its August 18 issue. Feature articles in the special issue examine the best management practices employed by the companies that are most successfully competing in the global marketplace.
"United Dominion is excited to be listed among such an august group, including industrial giants such as AlliedSignal, General Electric and Ford Motor Company," said William R. Holland, chairman and chief executive officer. "We have worked hard to transform United Dominion into a global industrial manufacturing enterprise with market-leader businesses capable of sustaining profitable growth. It is gratifying to know others are taking note of those efforts."
United Dominion's products are not household names, but they rank number one or two in the industrial markets they serve. They include heating, cooling and ventilating equipment for commercial and industrial facilities; cooling towers to process water for air conditioning systems and industrial processes; compactors to stabilize soil and smooth asphalt; and valves and pumps to move water, petroleum and chemicals. Other products include components for air filtration systems and processing equipment for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
IndustryWeek's 100 Best-Managed Companies list does not rank the 100 companies but lists them alphabetically. Using a proprietary financial formula, the magazine selected 200 finalists from its list of 1000 of the world's largest publicly held manufacturing companies. More than 50 international panelists - business leaders, analysts, academicians-and all IndustryWeek editors were asked to vote for those companies among the 200 finalists that they believe to be among the best managed in the world.
Finalist companies were asked to complete a questionnaire detailing their strongest performance and best practices from 12 areas in which they would be judged. IndustryWeek also researched the management practices of the finalist companies. United Dominion submitted specific information on its financial, operating and international performance and practices. "Our best-managed companies issue chronicles the best practices of the world's top companies. It's like Cliffs Notes for manufacturing executives," said John R. Brandt, IndustryWeek's editor-in-chief.
The magazine will recognize the 100 Best Managed Companies at an awards dinner at the Fairmont Hotel, Chicago on October 14.
United Dominion manufactures proprietary engineered products for customers worldwide. The company employs 10,500 people at 68 plants in 16 countries.
