My father has never liked banking with large publicly traded investment firms -- he doesn't trust them...He thinks they take on too much risk and are often motivated to sell clients investment products they don't need. In the last 2 years my father closed out his last account with Morgan Stanley. He has consolidated many of his investments with a privately held investment firm based in Chicago...William Blair is employee owned and has never gone into the risky subprime investments.
