>> Craig, every disease you just mentioned is a result of people living much much longer than they did in the utopian days you refere to. <<
i never claimed there was any utopia a century or two ago. i said people ate better and there was very little incidence of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer during those times. infectious diseases were the number one killers, so times weren't better. even people that lived into their seventies and eighties had very few incidences of cancer and heart disease as compared to today, so obviously it's not just the fact that people are living longer. you can find indigenous societies today where people live long lives and there is no incidence of heart disease and cancer. you don't get cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, etc because you are old. you get it mainly from poor nutrition. of course things like lack of exercise, smoking, genetics etc can play a part, but proper nutrition is by far the single best way to prevent these chronic diseases.
>> This longevity partly results from better nutrition we now enjoy these days. <<
bahh. the main reason life expectancies are higher these days is because of better health care and more sanitary conditions, not because of better nutrition. nutrition is far worse today than 10 years ago, 30 years ago, 100 years ago, etc. |
