While I agree with what you say, CPU's major drawback now is customer friendly stores and service. At my local Compusa, they have a young hireling standing in the exitway, as you leave , checking for stolen merchandise. This store is in a very affluent and commercial part of Tulsa, Oklahoma and no other stores in the area do that, including BestBuy, which is right across the street. Also, I stopped in CPU recently to purchase a new HP Laserjet 3100, roughly $699.00, I gave the ,very preoccupied, young girl my Compusa credit card that I had just recieved about a month earlier and never used. The card would not take in her system, she just looked at me and said sorry your card is no good. She didn't offer to get a manager to determine the problem etc,she just looked at me like I was wasting her valuable time. Needless to say, I went elsewhere and bought the printer and I was so mad I destroyed the card to insure I wouldn't be tempted to go back. I have invested here (small) for the tremendous potential this company has, they have a virtual monopoly on the computer specific retail market. I just can't believe management doesn't "get it" and turn this around. The problem is obvious to everyone but them. I just read in our local Sunday paper financials, that BestBuy was picked as stockpick of the week and it was mainly for a new customer service program being implimented. (Tulsa World Feb 28, Financial Section) Just my 2 cents
