ISP Channel Brings Cost-Effective Cable Modem Technology to Consumers
and Business by Integrating Products from 3Com and COM21
03:16 a.m. Feb 24, 1998 Eastern

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- SoftNet Systems, Inc.'s
(Amex: SOF) wholly-owned subsidiary, MediaCity World, announced today
systems integration agreements for cable modems and related cable
modem head-end equipment with both 3Com Corporation of Santa Clara,
California and Com21, Inc. of Milpitas, California for its ISP
Channel(SM) emerging broadband Internet service for small to mid size
cable TV operators.

"We evaluated many suppliers and found that these two companies
offer the best cable modem technology today along with MCNS standards
migration. More importantly, 3Com's Total Control Platform and COM21's
ComUNITY Access(TM) allow our network operations to function with our
current ISP provisioning tools," said Ian Aaron, ISP Channel
president. ISP Channel will use 3Com's MCNS standards-based cable
access products for cable plants with both one and two-way operation
within the broad consumer market.
The Com2l ComUNITY Access
system will be used for two-way ready cable operations, particularly
in market segments such as business-to-business and multiple dwelling
unit network connectivity.
