With stuff like the following going on, it's hard to believe the demand for back end storage won't continue to increase dramatically:
Movie Studios Get Hip With The Future By Dan Ackman
At one time, Hollywood studios feared the VCR and fought to have the devices declared illegal. Today, with videotape rentals and sales outstripping box office rentals and sales, the studios are getting right with the future by planning to offer their films on the Internet.
Five major movie studios yesterday announced plans for a joint venture that will offer a broad selection of films on the Internet for download to consumers with high-speed or broadband connections.
The studios involved in the service are Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer , Viacom 's Paramount Pictures, Sony 's Sony Pictures Entertainment, Vivendi Universal 's Universal Studios, and Warner Bros., a unit of AOL Time Warner . Other studios indicated they would announce similar plans soon.
The service has no name, no chief executive yet, and no launch date. But it is in Hollywood's future, said a spokesman for Sony, which is leading the venture.
Once it gets going, the service should provide a boost to firms that provide digital subscriber line and cable modem service, especially to home users. If hundreds or thousands of Hollywood movies come online, consumers will have a new reason to order a fast connection. |
