Sid,

Starts out by pointing out that while the price of IBM stock has risen, net earnings and revenue growth heading south.

Gets nasty when they graph out how IBM compares to others using percentage growth in revenues over 1996, and worldwide revenue for 1997 in billions.

Every year, IBM grows slower than the industry. IDC

>>Gerstner feels the internet will set off demand for IBM chip technology.<< (Hmmmm...where have we heard this kind of thing before?)

IMD's Michael Attardo sez, "My objective is to be the premier [chip] supplier in the networked world."

Says very little about how. Lists some customers, and future customers already in line for product and technology........says Hughes Electronics Corp. is planning to use IBM chips in communications satellites it will launch next year.

No real meat to the positives, imo. One might get the feel of a leaky ship........not yet sinking..........and maybe 1 on-the-way lifeboat.

It finishes by mention of Gerstner's selling 3% of his IBM share recently.
