Managing mission-critical networks is one of the biggest concerns facing information technology managers around the world today. To address the complex demands that customers place on their networks, 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS) today announced Strategic Network Solutions -- a full suite of professional services. These services will help customers capitalize on their network investment. Available immediately, Strategic Network Solutions include both packaged services and customized solutions that complement the existing range of 3Com traditional support services.
The Strategic Network Solutions announced today include four services to provide expertise in areas where customers require support as their networks evolve: Project Management, Network Performance Check, Comprehensive Network Installation and Transcend Network Management Implementation software. 3Com aims to enable customers to reduce operating costs by keeping networks running at peak performance, minimize down time and optimize their investment with 3Com. Working closely with the customer to deliver these services empowers on-site engineers to pass on technical expertise to in-house support teams, thereby equipping customers with the necessary knowledge and ability to maintain and control their networks. Customers learn to adapt their networks to changing environments and keep abreast of network developments.
According to IDC research conducted in June 1997, the worldwide market for network consulting and integration services will double between 1997 and 2001 to a value of $20.06 billion. This not only presents an opportunity for all networking vendors like 3Com to provide professional services, but also indicates businesses' growing demand for external consulting expertise to help manage their networks.

3Com offers three new packaged services under Strategic Network Solutions:
-- Network Performance Check - This service is designed for customers requiring improved local area network performance and productivity tools. On-site analysis of traffic enables 3Com to recommend strategies for performance improvement to the customer.
-- Network Installation - Customers who want assurance that their new 3Com devices are installed and operating effectively can choose between standard installation and comprehensive installation services, to ensure 3Com equipment is up and running as soon as possible. The comprehensive installation service provides resources to manage the ordering, testing, delivery, pre-configuration and installation of equipment.
-- Transcend Network Management Implementation - For customers with 3Com Transcend network management software who wish to leverage 3Com support expertise, this service provides full on-site configuration implementation, guidance and orientation on the most effective use of the software features such as network surveillance, configuration and performance, and fault analysis.
