The reason why CIEN making a run was the rumors on getting into S&P 500 index. But I doubt it since P/E ratio is outrages.

10:54 (Dow Jones) What do Ciena (CIEN), Gemstar (GMST) and BEA Systems (BEAS)
all have in common? Smart-aleck response: They're more than 60% off their
52-week highs. True, but the answer we're looking for is that they're
candidates to be added to the S&P 500 Index, according to Salomon Smith
Barney's global portfolio trading strategies unit. Salomon says 14 stocks
should be deleted from the benchmark index in 2001 because they're being
acquired, including Harcourt General (H), Willamette Industries (WLL) and
Quaker Oats (OAT). Ciena, Gemstar and BEA are among the largest non-S&P 500
stocks by market cap. Industry representation is another criterion for
replacement, which makes Washington Post (WPO) and CNA Financial (CNA)
candidates, among others. (PDL)
