Dear Muzosi:

It may be worse than you think. There was one post IIRC of someone using a Vtune compiler to see if their program could be made faster but even that poster did not claim to build the code they would release to their customers with it. Only as a tool for getting a start on optimization of pieces of their program. The poster made no mention of any executables generated and using it that way, they would not need it to do even that.

Given how easy it must be to find one, Elmer, as you did, assumes that there must be one somewhere using it to build their program, but that still does not make it true. People thought that Intel with all the testing they do on a new CPU, would have at least tried to compile the kernel under Linux. It astounded people, including me, that they would not do such an obvious thing. I do it for both stress testing of a system and as a quickie benchmark on relative performance of systems. Remember "Assumption is the mother of all Foul Ups" (quote editted to make it readable for children (you must know the real word used in this quote)).
