This is worse than smoke.

defenselink.mil

This month DOD has consolidated enlistments and re-enlistments into one category called accessions. And I don't believe the combined Army goal of 7,450 for July for a second.

The active Army recruiting goal for FY 2005 is 80,000 plus 30,000 for the authorized augmentation.
As of end of June they enlisted 42,100.

The key number to understand is end strength. In July, one of the best two recruiting months of the year, the Army only managed to increase strength by 50 men.

Telling us they met their goal is saying this manpower shortage is OK.

Active DOD strength has dropped 43,000 men in the past 12 months. If we can't add more than 50 in July we are headed back to more shortfalls and further strength reductions in the coming months.
