From Ace's Hardware:
1.2 GHz Athlon and 1.5 GHz P4 in Pro/E (HARDWARE) Posted By Brian Neal Friday, February 2, 2001 - 11:49:48 AM
Today I noticed Pro/E: Magazine has published some new results for their Pro/ENGINEER benchmarks. As you may recall, they published some results last December with the Pentium 4 firmly leading the pack. This time around, however, they've evaluated two systems, one based on the 1.5 GHz Pentium and another on the 1.2 GHz Athlon.
System Processor Pro/E: The Benchmark 2000 CPU Graphics Overall Dell Precision WorkStation 330 1.5 GHz Pentium 4 971 788 1759 U-Tron ProE 1200 Workstation 1.2 GHz Athlon Thunderbird 899 910 1810
As you can see, the Dell Pentium 4 has a marginal lead over U-Tron's 1.2 GHz Athlon in the CPU performance test, but comes up short in the graphics benchmark. Both systems were equipped with 256 MB of RAM (rather low for their intended purpose) and Ultra160 SCSI. The Dell system was configured with an NVIDIA Quadro 2 Pro graphics adaptor, while the U-Tron machine used an Elsa GLoria III. Compared to the previous results we saw, these two systems are far more evenly matched. We have heard, however, that, when paired with the 1.2 GHz Athlon, AMD-760-based systems lead the 1.5 GHz Pentium 4 in all areas of the benchmark. Of course, we will have to wait and see what happens, but with new processors due to be released by AMD shortly and the scalability of the Pentium 4, we think the results will be very interesting.
