I think the deal is that the market is simply thrashing around and getting nowhere. If you were fully invested, you would have gone through 2 or 3 roller-coaster rides now and yet, gotten nowhere.

The only guys who can stay invested and sleep well in this kind of environment are those who got into dividend-paying stocks that up their dividends every year (like ABT, for instance). If they had gotten in, say, 10 years ago, their yields on cost would be of the order of 10% to 15% and with the dividends being reasonably safe, they have little to worry about.
