Excellent article. The phaseout of various deductions is very annoying. One thing that is annoying as well was one of the proposals Bush has on the table for $5,000 deduction for educational expenses for children, and supposedly even Bush's plan calls for a phase-out at some income level.

The Alternative minimum tax takes away a lot of deductions without people being really aware of it (that is people who file their tax returns), most people don't have a clue, and think that certain things are deductible, but they may not be.
