After 4 billion years the life on this planet is pretty complex. Most traits exist with the counter-trait present. This allows evolution to work on the balance of the traits instead of having to come up with a whole new mutution in times of stress.

(I hope you realize that even though I sometimes write as if evolution is a thing and has ideas, it is really a process and has no planning. The prose gets really obtuse if I use third person expository all the time).
