great story, thanks for sharing! i am impressed that you were able to handle a situation for folks that the manufacturer's tech support couldn't.

how long did all of that take you? at least a few hours, i'm guessing. do you own a similar model hp? were pc's owner(s) present during your troubleshooting and repair endeavor? you sound like you knew just what to do.

the aol disconnect comment reminds me that there are a ton of 'stay connect' feeware and shareware programs out there to take care of that aol annoyance. here's one that costs 20 bucks bestzips.com
