Hi Frank and Thread, RE: "do you see any decent recovery of techs in the future?"
Niles just figured out that this semi wreck (pun intended) is worse than 1996, never mind the fact that Grove had already said this economic climate is on the order of 1985 per a news article.
The prices keep looking more attractive, but who knows which way the stock is headed short-term, or any semi stock for that matter.
Motorola...at an 8-year low. I don't own the stock, but a friend of mine does. Has been in his family since the 50's or thereabouts, passed down through 2 generations. They won't sell it, as it has a lot of sentimental value for the family. I doubt they're enjoying what appears to be the worse semi year. (I agree with Nile's claim).
One thing about Intel though, it seems like it's in a much stronger position than the situation they had during their difficult transition in 1985, where folks told me Intel's future wasn't clear.
Regarding recovery... every day, your computer gets older, and when XP comes out, folks will need to upgrade their PCs to keep up. Intel's continued entry into the Server market will be quite helpful. While nw comm market may be cloudy at the moment, it's probably only the degree of growth that's the question. XP will probably make a nice upgrade path for P4, as time goes on. All this takes time though.
