We all know that there are people who would rather see others starve than see them eat GM crops. It's not just a question of lower costs. Pest-resistant crops mean less use of pesticides, and misuse of pesticides - often applied by hand and without protective gear - has become a major health problem in much of the developing world. The left has worked this up as an issue on ideological, not scientific, grounds.
