From everything I have read this appears to be the only holdups. There is a chance the constition will be postponed but I think there is a better chance MOST of the constitution will go through with an election down the road to settle the two points above. jdn

Let's hope you are right, jdn. But reading Larry Diamond's book crystallizes my thoughts. He notes that during his period working with Bremer, from November of 2003 to March of 2004, how much US policy making was out of touch with the political realities on the ground in Iraq. And that it grew more so.

Diamond writes as a friend of Condeleeza Rice (she recruited him for assistance in Iraq) and as a former colleague of her's at Stanford.

I don't see anything to suggest it's much better now.
