What is clear is that AOL will quickly double the number of
modems that they have in the next quarter.

In a year, 56kbps modems will be the norm. This doesn't seem
to be a good time to make a huge purchase of modems that will
soon be considered old. In order to compete, AOL will have to
upgrade the bulk of their modems to 56kbps capability.

Now, if you were AOL, wouldn't you be trying to purchase modems
that were upgradable at a minimal cost?

What vendor would offer the best deal?
