The German and Norwegian models bear more scrutiny, but realistically the US is never going to adopt 50%+ tax rates, government spending at 50% of GDP, or saving huge nest eggs for the welfare of future generations. That begs the question of whether we should but to me it is academic.

So we are left with a situation where different administrations will impose or less burden on the private sector to achieve social goods, with the inevitable muddled and mixed results.
