If you count the garage, our house is about 4,000 sq. ft., built in 1979, and it actually looks very 70's (brown shag rug in the rec room) but the big new houses they build around here are more like 6,000 to 8,000. If you visit people who live in them, they remind me of something out of a Walter Scott novel. I expect to see pigs roasting in the fireplaces.

Especially in McLean, where all the AOL executives live. Those seem like they're around 20,000 sq. ft., but I guess they have live-in servants.

The odd things is newlyweds living in these monstrosities. I bet if you look in the windows, they don't have any furniture in some of the rooms.
