I just finished David McCullough's book,1776, and I think a lot of people are in for some surprises if and when they read it. Well-documented, too. Read it about a month ago. I was surprised at just how desperate the colonists' position was in NYC. And just after. That trek across Jersey was just dismal. I had known that it took some time for Washington to stumble across a guerilla war strategy, so that was not new. I'm a fan of McCullough's Truman book. This one wasn't quite up to that level. imho
