geneh-I buy them new and use them for washing the cars, laundering them after each use. When I think they are "used" enough, I graduate them to polishing/buffing duty. I think they are softer than toweling . BTW, I have also read on other car care sites that you should not use fabric softener (liquid or sheets) with your auto care cloths. The residue will streak the car's finish. billwot
