XML Working Group outlines current projects

SEATTLE --"... Members of various XML working groups delivered a state of the union address here Wednesday at XML: The Conference, to bring people up to speed on the various activities under way.

Sun Microsystems' Jon Bosak, the head of the XML Working Group, delivered a quick overview of the Extensible Markup Language (XML) and said it is unique because of its extensibility, structure, validation, and media-independence.

Bosak also addressed concerns he had heard that Microsoft is hijacking XML, and might steer it away from being open and interoperable. Bosak said Microsoft is not behind any XML conspiracy.

"XML may be a conspiracy," Bosak joked, "but it's not Microsoft's."

Bosak also predicted that XML would become the universal format for structured data..."
