Ted Re..The reason he isn't drinking alcohol is because he has a problem drinking it and that's why he's an alcoholic.<<<<<<<<<
I can see your point but I look at it another way. Lets say 10% of the population has an urge to be a kleptomaniac..

The comments I have made regarding Bush's alcoholism are very similar to the views held by AA. While I am not in AA, I had a good friend who was a druggie and a bunch of his friends, me included, attended Alanon meetings for a while to get a better understanding of what was going on with our friend.

Essentially, alcoholism is an insidious disease and many familiar with it would simply say that Bush is in remission....that its very possible that the behavior that triggers the disease is still active, making it possible for him to fall back into drinking.

I think we have belabored this point....but just in this short discourse, I think my original point is underlined. There should have been an active discussion re Bush's alcoholism and what, if any, impact would that have on the presidency.

I didn't say you know him; but giving him excuses just gives him another reason not to control his urges. The other day in a post you said that Bill was born in a disruptive family, thats why he had problems. That is enabling. Bill has been naughty, but it's his parents fault. You should persecute them not Bill.

He was born into a family that was dysfunctional and alcoholic. Often times the active disease skips a generation but the symptoms of the disease are still present.....hence the term a dry drunk. However in the case of Clinton I suspect he is a sex addict, meaning that he's not a dry drunk but the disease is expressing itself in another way, a sexual way. Remember for the child of an alcoholic parent, he is disgusted and afraid of what he sees....so drinking becomes disgusting and fearful. However he still has the compulsion to satisfy certain emotional needs and those compulsions manifest themselves in other ways....sex, prescription drugs, illegal drugs, food, gambling etc.

However, my intent is not to excuse him nor am I enabling him by taking this position. All that I am trying to do is show that his problems are very complex and will take a great deal of effort to resolve. Its not like having a bad habit that can be over come with great willpower and discipline. That's why few, if any, should judge someone in that position. Its their business when they do the necessary work.

Do you think you might let him work out his problems in his own time? <<<<<<<

No Bill is already 50 yrs old; he is not a child anymore. Enough is enough.

What's age have to do wiht it...some people don't get sober until they are in their sixties. And what's this "enough is enough" garbage? Why do you take this so personally? We all learn in our own good time...give it rest.

A little humility and there I go if not for the grace of God. [I am hoping with all these biblical references that you might get what I am saying.]<<<<<<<<<

How dare you even suggest that I would do that to my secretary. There goes the grace of god applies only if there is a chance I would actually do those things.

First I used the term 'I' rather than 'you' so again why are you reading into that comment?

Besides when I said "there but for the grace of God".....there are many other things we do that are just as disturbing as sexual harassment.....so what I meant was, "thanks, God, for not letting me screw up badly".

Bill was humiliated for Monica, but we shouldn't let his dalliances cover up his other far more serious flaws. Whitewater was a scam; 5 or 6 other people involved in it were sent to prison. Hillary was the lawyer who drew up the papers which scammed the people.

Why were Bill and Hillary Clinton not sent to jail? Were they found guilty?
