I think lots of people find a great deal of comfort belonging to a group. For some, it is a religious group, others a political group, (and some an old car group ;-).

Most of us can be had. We know there are a lot of people that are much smarter and know a lot more than we do.

For most of us, if anyone can demonstrate they know a little bit more than we do, they can become king. Just like the teacher who stays one lesson ahead of the students.

Of course we choose to follow people that fit into who we are.

If we tend towards religion, we may follow the lead of people who have studied religion or claim to have personal communications with a supreme being.

I also believe there are people who understand this principle and have the ability to cash in on it. I believe there are people that can cash in on all the people that harbor anger. That is a pretty big market.

There is a whole industry that tries to cash in on all the people that are seeking help to control their anger. Most of the people that try to cash in on helping people with their anger, do not actually do anything to identify the source of the anger and try to cure people of it. What they do is channel peoples anger toward easy targets and at the same time cash in on it. Of course the best of these may not be complete hypocrites - some may even manage to convince themselves (to some degree) that their anger is justified.

Life is complex. Things may not always be just black or white. When you start mixing things up a little, you could some times convince yourself that black is white and white is black.

As has been said, the man with one eye can become king if everyone else is blind.
