David, I think there are a couple of things that could change the street's overall outlook. Of course a partnership with Microsoft on a Merced OS would totally change the picture and probably vault the stock into the low 40's overnight although I'm not sure it would stay there. But as I've said, even if Microsoft and Apple were working on a joint OS I'm not sure what they would have to gain by announcing it until next year.
I also think some sort of sea change is possible that would awaken consumers and the street. I don't think even slightly increasing revenues will do it, at least until 2-3 qtrs of increased revenues are in evidence. Perhaps heavy marketing, along with a very successful iMac debut in which the media found that potential Wintel customers were buying iMac's instead. That would obviously cloud the street's belief that Apple was dying. I'm very enthusiastic about the iMac. It Apple doesn't blow it this sort of scenario could very well happen.
That said I for one am not going to count on it for investment purposes until I see evidence of it happening.
