I have a friend who bought one about a month ago.
Thanks. The network issue is a serious one. We have four computers in the house, networked off a Linksys router. Two are wired; two are wireless.
The literature I've read to date suggests that the newest IMac, the Intel based one, which is wireless, need only be turned on and it will find the wireless signal. And both internet connection and connections to the other computers on the network will be effortless.
It's precisely your friend's experience that troubles me.
One thing that gave me some comfort is that, unlike my previous mostly positive Mac experience (in fact, I loved them), the new Apple Stores now repair Macs, give advice on how to do installation over the phone, etc.
As for the single button mouse, that will take some unlearning, just as getting used to the two button mouse took some as well.
On the landscaping program issue, I would expect there are plenty around for Windows. She can run Windows programs on most Macs through a program called Virtual PC. It's a Microsoft program.
Not yet ready for the Intel Macs but has been available for the PowerPC, IBM Macs for some time. I'm told.
I know about it because I need, at least for a while, to run some stock trading programs that are only Windows. I may just have to keep at least one Windows based computer around the house. |
