Tell ya what BLUE...you hit every single nail squarely right on the head. As a 15-year veteran of the Submarine Service, sleeping just feet away from an incredible nuclear arsenal, I gained a perspective on what the difference is between what weapons (guns, missiles, whatever) are responsible for, and what the people on those triggers hold responsibility for. I'm happy to say that not one of those doomsday monsters ever left their silo to indiscriminantly kill. They can't fire themselves! An inanimate object doesn't make decisions like that. I guess you can say, missiles don't kill the people...it's the people on the trigger that fires the missile that carries that burden (and, of course, those that give the orders). And as horrifying as the thought of nuclear armegeddon(sp?) was, if the order came down, I'm afraid it would have been followed explicitly. I'm sure I've mellowed quite a bit since my time in the military, but at the time, whether through cadence or indoctrination, you must follow whatever (legal) order you are given. If the brass didn't think you could pull the trigger, you were not put in a position where those doubts could cause a problem. I'm sure it's hard for someone who has never served (like Bubba) to understand how that whole thing works. So here we are, we have a bunch of Hollywood actors and politicians trying to legislate something they don't understand. Who else was invited? Marilyn Manson, Howard Stern, and the maker of "Doom"? GET A GRIP BUBBA! Leave the Blood Money and fight the "war" on school (and other) violence where it needs to be fought! Sheesh! pals (but not visiting BLUE unannounced), -Joe |
