I agree. The attitude is more of "yeah, maybe we shouldn't buy stocks on margin, but if we buy stocks like INTC, CSCO, MSFT, AMAT, ORCL... etc. (regardless of valuations, of course) we will come out ahead in the longer run".

This is not fear! Not by any stretch of the imagination. This can only be called some kind of "born-again complacency"!

PS: Just heard another nugget from a co-worker -- he thinks it is "Perfectly OK" to be on margin as long as you buy "good companies". You know, like, CSCO, INTC, MSFT... well, you know the drill!
