According to the conference call, Amazon lowered prices for books this quarter!
(Bezos: We made a very significant price reduction in books by lowering the prices by 30% on books priced over $20.)

I never shop there so can't compare their pricing. I am skeptic of this comment. It sounded more like an advertisement.

Now why would Amazon lower books in the middle of a drive to achieve profitability? Only one reason: nobody was buying.

Or they did not lower the book prices which was the reasons for a 12% drop in sales of BMV year over year. Something is needed to explain the general significant decrease in gross margins besides the fact it may be the transition to selling more used product which does have lower margins.

Either their purchasers are incompetent or Amazon plans on further reducing prices during Xmas, further damaging the bottom line.

Management claimed they plan to reduce the price of books further. Here is a close quote from Bezos during the conference call. May not be exact: "If you are buying a book anywhere else rather than at Amazon, you are paying too much." That sounds more like an advertisment rather than an investment conference call.

Customer contacts are down 25% (they removed their phone number from their web page --I kid you not-- and suprise surprise, less customers contact them).

I was unaware of the phone number issue LOL.
