All soldiers who serve in a real war theater gain experience worth millions of dollars in training. They will be far better and more effective in the ability to defend America.

There is a place for a lot of emotion, but somewhere there has to be some real planning. Someone has to put pencil to paper and come up with some real metrics. Where do you get the biggest bang for the dollar. Especially when you are risking soldier's lives.

To the hard nosed who dominate much of the rest of the world, the war of eliminating the Taliban and Saddam was awe inspiring. The planning and execution was stunning.

The value of that respect is priceless.

Our enemies are not hard nosed realists. They are not going to respect anything that we do. They are not planning to succeed here on earth. They think they are getting their reward in the after life. Demonstrating that we can get them there (to the after life) quicker, may not be the most effective way to achieve our objectives.

I admit, I do not know the answer, but I don't think you know either.
