Tenchu's Thoughts: Alexandria Occasional-Cortex and the Political Virus
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tests positive for COVID-19 (nypost.com)

So AOC contracts COVID-19 after partying maskless in Florida. She actually is symptomatic and is recovering at home.
Earlier, she got into a bit of a spat with right-wing trolls over her trip to Florida:
AOC Blasts 'Sexual Frustrations' of Republicans Over Maskless 'Frolicking' in Florida (newsweek.com)

The proper grown-up response from her should have been to ignore the trolls and vacation the way she wants to.
Instead, she makes herself look even dumber than she ever looked in the past (which itself is quite an accomplishment) by calling out "sexual frustrations" of Republicans.
Project much, Ms. Occasional-Cortex?
In any case, AOC was fully vaxxed and boosted, but she still contracts COVID-19 anyway. She's highly unlikely to die thanks in part due to the jab, but it's just a reminder that the coronavirus doesn't discriminate. It doesn't care if you are Republican, Democrat, or independent. It doesn't give a s--t about whether you support Trump or Brandon.
Masking up and getting vaxxed can reduce your chances, but the chances are never zero. The only way to reduce the chance down to zero is to live in a bubble, and that's obviously not practical for anyone.
"BFD, Tenchu. What difference does this make?"
Good question. It all has to do with the politicization of COVID-19.
When you impose restrictions, regulations, mandates, and laws that severely restrict the freedom of Americans, you better practice what you preach.
Look at California Governor Gavin Newsom, who had to face a recall election because of his trip to a three-Michelin-star restaurant which went against his own social distancing rules.
Look at San Francisco mayor London Breed, who hypocritically criticized the "fUn pOlIcE" after partying maskless indoors.
And it's not just in America. Uproar over mask hypocrisy is happening in India too, for example:
Mask hypocrisy on display at public health event - The Hindu
And it's not limited to masks, either. There was an international political row over Novak Djokovic, who recently got a "medical exemption" from Australia's vaccine mandate:
Djokovic will play in Australian Open after getting medical exemption (msn.com)

I guarantee you that his "medical exemption" is pure bulls--t, and that he was granted one only because he's a famous tennis star.
Rules For Thee, Not For Me
Here's the message. We're supposedly all in this together.
So why does the political class come up with rules that they themselves can't (or won't) follow?
Because it should be obvious. To them, laws are simply "guidelines." It's up to whoever is in charge to enforce them or not.
Forget all of the talk about "due process" or "equal protection of the law," because we all know to those in power, some are "more equal" than others. Those people include:
- Sports stars and Hollywood celebrities
- Local, state, and federal officials
- Those who have "black or brown privilege." (Don't believe me? Ask yourself why black antivaxxers get a pass, and why Latinos aren't excoriated for their hard partying and extended family gatherings, both of which have been deemed "superspreader" behaviors.)
These are the very people who are exempted from the rules.
You can forgive negligence. You can even forgive ignorance. But you can't forgive willful hypocrisy. Even the most staunch atheists believe in karma and in what Jesus said, "Judge not, lest ye be judged."
