I think one of the US bio-weapons scientists has said in the past that producing dry anthrax requires a state run bio-weapons program. There are a lot of problems involved...getting hold of a lethal strain...producing large quantities of spores...separating those spores from the culture medium...treating the spores so they will float in the air and not clump together...and then testing the product to make sure that it will actually work. The Iraqis had perfected wet anthrax, and were working hard to develop the dry stuff. It doesn't sound like the sort of thing some anarchist could cook up in their kitchen.

Since the start of this anthrax scare, the government has been trying to play the whole thing down. We were told that the first case was "naturally occurring", and it was suggested the guy got it from drinking streamwater. Even from the publicly available information it was clear that this was bull. IMO the government has known for some time that this anthrax is Iraqi, but they don't want to go to war with Iraq because that will blow apart the coalition necessary for war in Afghanistan. They are probably also afraid of public panic if they were to tell all that they know. I get the feeling that there is a lot that the public is not being told.
