Years ago in the military, the higher ups went on a "safety kick," and we were instructed to do preposterous things such as creating safety tags which read, "WARNING! DO NOT EAT," and attaching them to bottles of liquid paper and other "hazardous materials." Eventually, they decided to confiscate all of the liquid paper and we simply were no longer allowed to use or possess liquid paper. It was a colossal waste of time (tax dollars at work), typical of the military, and yes, people were disciplined for not accomplishing this assignment in a timely manner. (I swear I am not joking. Our Captain was an idiot, but he was the Captain! Heh!)

So... Why are some components of government preoccupied with the possibility that someone may become confused and eat some liquid paper and get sick, while other components are quite willing to allow aviation travel to continue when terrorists obviously can access airplanes at will? Which is the greater "safety" threat?

Things that make you go, "hmmmm?"
