ref: "Sanders expressed sentiment reflecting Dell's attitude vis-a-vis AMD: "I can't sell a K6 to that guy no matter what I do. "

The explaination in part is due to the fact that DELL is the leader in Build to Order. In the world of lean logistics; a great premium is placed on innovation/upgrading of product, reliability, quality, the ability to meet demand demand and do the preceeding on a routine basis over time. INTEL has proven this and does this. AMD has not proven this and does not do this.

There is no incentive for DELL to engage in a long term contract, much less a short term contract with AMD.
