Hi OJ,

sure, I think the boom will last this year, but no longer.
Sure demand is increasing, but just consider the mathematics:
Going from 8 to 12 inch wafers results in an increase from 314 to 706 sq. cms per wafer. (more than double)
Going from 0,25 to 0,18æ structure represents an almost doubling of the number of devices per sq. centimeter.
In other words, these 2 steps together result in 4x the number of chips per wafer.
Now we all know that demand is increasing, but not by this much!
This calculation represents the bain of the semicon industry.
They are unable to expand capacity in an analogue manner to keep pace with demand, but make quantum leaps, which are in reality self-destructive. The only guy who wins, is the one who implements them first. For the rest,it's just investing to catch up

Alan
