full screen captures....

since i've been doing a fair amount of experimentation with new software and firewalls and operating systems, and i'd like to be able to put things back the way they were if and when everything turns to poop, i've come to employ a number of very useful methods of doing just that.

one is to record settings via full screen or active window captures. upon installing win2000pro, i had to hookup with my cable modem people to go over the local area network settings. everything looked slightly different to me in the new os. the cable modem tech had me going in no time, but i doubted that i could repeat that effort on my own as quickly or as accurately as he did.

so i took pics of every dialog! ten screen captures in all, each one saved to my hd and to removable disk, and also printed out. so much more efficient than trying to write all of that stuff down!

i intend to install aol6.0 on win2000 soon, and i understand that in some cases it can really mess around with all of your network connection settings. if i find myself in that predicament, i want some options. now i will be able to refer to the screen captures to reset anything that aol may have tweaked.

and i always have drive image waiting in the wings to bail me out if need be, and put the whole darn os back the way it was prior to the aol install.

these options are essentially nets placed under a high wire, and every step i take with them in place feels like less and less of a risk.

fwiw.....

:)
