I am in the process of setting a portfolio up for my teenager who just got first job. It will be taxable. Starting with NEE, SHW, NKE, JNJ, MDLZ, MSFT , TXN & APPL. Account is just over $10k and I will match 100% what they save from work. I also ask for 1 hour each week to discuss the portfolio as a teachable moments. When the first dividend hit the account they were so excited. Also, seeing the growth also helped; asked if they could take the college fund and invest instead of going university...go the trade route instead. This made me smile.
