Drive E: ...

I have three logical drives C:, D:, and E:, created with FDISK, F: being a RAM drive, and G: as CD-ROM. I sometimes forget that others configure their systems differently and post as if the world and I travel parallel computing paths, a habit which causes much confusion.

I put my swap file on E: because I have an unused chunk of space there. I put my DriveImage images on E:, as well. Since my images are never-changing data, I have DEFRAG put them at the end of the disk, leaving the front vacant. It is in this vacant space I have located my swap file. Here, it can reside in blissful isolation, and because it has an empty lot next door, it can expand by simply hopping the fence: No need to look further.

Since your E: drive is a CD, I'm assuming C: and D: are hard disks. Your swap file should be placed on the fastest disk you have. If an otherwise unused disk isn't available to be dedicated only to the swap file, I think that the swap file should share the disk where the other data changes the least.

I edited the settings into SYSTEM.INI because I couldn't get the System Properties Virtual Memory to accept a minimum and no maximum setting. It seems to want both or none.

Cheers, PW.
