Hi Hawkmoon; I see that you are trying to argue about the law with CobaltBlue.

Bilow.. Lawyers argue WITH EACH OTHER about the law ALL THE TIME!!!

I HIGHLY RESPECT CB's opinions, even if we might disagree from time to time...

And what I respect about her is that she, unlike some people, takes great effort to base her opinions in documented fact and evidence..

The issues surrounding the status of detainees is a VERY ambiguous one, with various interpretations. This is because international law, unlike statuatory law in the US, is VAGUE, and full of exceptions and special conditions.

It a lawyer's playground with regard to what is, and isn't legal...

But what do you care about the law?? A UNSC binding resolution, issued under Chapter VII of the UN charter, is about the closest example of a statuatory international law..

And people like you have been content to see 17 such laws issued against Saddam's intransigence, go completely ignored and unenforced..

And because you were unwilling to support the proper enforcement of those laws, we were forced to take such harsh steps to preserve any remaining credibility for the UN as an institution..

The very same institution that, even as they were supposed to be enforcing economic sanctions, was corrupted and manipulated by various UN and governmental leaders for their own profit and gain.

You want to discuss the law, then why don't you press for the UN to provide subpoena power to Paul Volker's investigation of the Oil for Food scandal?
