Mr. Smart, your letter (and total post) took the words right out of my mouth!! I too work in the securities industry and personally use AOL at home. As their client base increases, their concern for quality service definitely decreases ... the only thing that DOES seem to increase is the number of times a session you get error messages or booted off!

AOL's browser cannot load many of the sites I try to view, making research and surfing VERY frustrating. Taking 20 minutes - literally - to sign on is enough to make you want to drop-kick your computer out the window! Then you realize you cannot throw the baby out with the bathwater, especially since the water was tainted to begin with! And I am hearing the same comments you are, in regards to getting off of AOL. I think all AOL users should pick a day to cancel (permanent boycott) their service and hit Case where it hurts; the only problem with that is so many of the users are shareholders!! (But I'm not!!)

Maybe this is a catastrophic opinion on my part, but for the rapidly growing "new" online users, if AOL is their first experience, imagine the long-term, overall negativity this could create for Internet stocks and online businesses profitability .... in other words, why buy a book you either can't open to read or only has every other page printed in it??? I wouldn't care how many people recommended it to me - if I couldn't read it for myself, then I would be on to something more accessible!! Who needs the extra-added hassle when everyday life is enough??!! (And then to pay for it too?? HA!)

I am also ready to dump AOL as my ISP; I have heard good things about Earthlink - any feedback on them? And I get the feeling Case figures as long as AOL's primarily "sick & twisted" chat rooms keep people signed on (and PAYING for the dementia!), why should he care about those of us who use the Net for more positive productivity...? I'm pretty sure he's not real concerned about responding to your message; hell, I don't even know you and I wrote back! :>) Happy posting people!!

Rob
