Report: Bush Would Likely Have Won
Florida Recount

By Frances Kerry

MIAMI (Reuters) - George W. Bush almost
certainly would have held his lead in Florida,
the state that was key to clinching the
presidential election, even if the U.S.
Supreme Court (news - web sites) had not
stopped a vote recount, results from an
analysis of ballots released by the Miami
Herald show.

Reporting on a review of 64,248 ballots in all 67 Florida counties
conducted by the Herald and its parent company Knight Ridder, in
partnership with USA Today newspaper, the Herald said Bush's
razor-thin margin in the state would actually have tripled using the
generous standards for vote counting that were advocated by Democrat
Al Gore (news - web sites)'s campaign.
