But that does not automatically send stocks up and valuations are again an issue -- far higher than where they should be at this point in the business cycle.

GST baby, you have to look 6-9 months ahead. If you wait for recovery beyond a shadow of doubt, you won't participate in the rally. I invested my money market funds in the US stock market after 9-11, because I believed in US. I think this rally still has a long way to go--and my alternatives for parking my profits over the past 12 weeks are pretty dreary.
I don't think that the dollar is in any danger of crashing in the next few years(as you are trying to tell us?!?). I did buy some euro's and aussies(but in retrospect, should have bought just RMB(j/k)).
I think that the Joes, Janes and the Jones' are going to increase spending in the next few months. The projected unemployment rate of 6% is still on the lower side(historically), massive liquidity, refinancings, taxcuts, lower( heating costs+ gasoline+ lower inventories), OBL's obliteration and 2.5 trilion in money market funds. ohh yeah, and my favorite--all the margin clowns have been annihilated. e.g the torrid message boards of yesteryears are but a memory. The only reason its interesting to visit the si amzn thread is that people frequenting here were clever enough to sell before too late(or lucky enough to short the techs late last year).
And don't the toys around the house seem kinda old now--who wants to look at the pentium-2 laptop from 2 years ago when you can get a spanking new p4 for next to nothing?? :)
